Gumroad fees in 2026: what you actually keep
By the Crato team · Prices checked Oct 5, 2026 · 3 min read
The short answer
- Direct sales (someone buys from your link): Gumroad takes 10% + 50¢. Card processing is charged on top, about 2.9% + 30¢ in the US.
- Discover sales (someone finds you on Gumroad's marketplace): Gumroad takes 30%, and processing is included.
- No monthly fee.
- Payouts: $10 minimum, and each sale is held for at least 7 days.
On a $19 product sold from your own link, you keep about $15.75. That's 83% of the price.
The fees, one by one
1. Gumroad's fee on direct sales: 10% + 50¢ This applies to every sale that comes from a link you shared: your bio, your email, a post. The 50¢ is charged per sale, so it hits cheap products hardest. On a $5 product, 50¢ is 10% on its own.
2. Card processing: about 2.9% + 30¢ Gumroad's help center is clear that its 10% + 50¢ does not include payment processing. Expect roughly 2.9% + 30¢ per US card sale, more on some international cards and PayPal.
3. Discover: 30%, all in If a buyer finds you through Gumroad's Discover marketplace, the fee is 30% and covers processing. You keep 70%. That's a lot, but it's for a buyer you didn't bring yourself.
4. Sales tax and VAT: handled by Gumroad Since January 2025, Gumroad is the merchant of record for sales tax and VAT. It collects and pays those taxes, so they don't come out of your share in a way you have to manage. This is one of the best things about Gumroad.
5. Payouts: $10 minimum, 7-day hold Each sale sits for at least 7 days before it can be paid out, and you need at least $10 to get a payout.
What you keep per sale
| Product price | Gumroad fee | Card fees | You keep (direct) | You keep (Discover) |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| $9 | $1.40 | $0.56 | $7.04 (78%) | $6.30 |
| $19 | $2.40 | $0.85 | $15.75 (83%) | $13.30 |
| $49 | $5.40 | $1.72 | $41.88 (85%) | $34.30 |
*US card fees of 2.9% + 30¢. Your exact card fees vary by country and payment method.*
The cheaper the product, the bigger the bite. A $9 product loses 22% to fees. A $49 product loses 15%.

Is Gumroad worth the fees?
It can be. The fees buy you:
- tax and VAT handled for you
- a marketplace that might send you buyers
- no monthly bill, ever
If you sell mostly to your own audience and you'd rather keep more per sale, a lower fee store is worth a look. We wrote a Gumroad alternative comparison with the full picture, including where Gumroad still wins.
